FAT+
Smart analog / vacuum tube / tape saturation VST effect with 4x oversampling and full control over the style of saturation.
In music, mixing and production there are 4 methods of eliminating unwanted peaks of a signal and improving the overall loudness of channels or the whole mix: compression, hard clipping, soft clipping or saturation.
While compression is used most frequently, it is often not the best solution — compressed signals often lose their dynamics, transients, clarity and transparency, and can sound pumped, squashed and unnatural. Because of this, more and more renowned mix engineers use soft clipping and saturation of high signals driven through analog tape or vacuum tubes, which enrich the sound and offer a more natural reduction of unwanted peaks. Often it is best to combine saturation/soft clipping with compression and limiting.
Hard (digital) clipping = all peaks over a certain level are simply cut, which can create a harsh distorted sound.
Saturation / soft (analog) clipping = all peaks over a certain level are rounded, not cut, creating a pleasant and more natural-sounding removal of the highest peaks.
While other solutions offer concrete emulations of vintage machines with all their unwanted artifacts, FAT+ offers a modern and clean style of analog saturation / soft clipping with full control — from clean tube and analog mix-console saturation to clean modern analog tape. For the most precise and clean sound without digital distortion or artifacts, FAT+ offers 4x internal oversampling.
G-Mix series+ is a continuously growing collection of specialized plug-ins aimed at improving the sound of your tracks and mixes — modern, professional-sounding plug-ins for a very reasonable price.
Feature Highlights
- Input amp — attenuation or 2.5x amplification; higher input = more saturation / soft clipping
- Analog warmth — round and warm-sounding analog saturation (rounding of peaks)
- FAT — 1st harmonics, the fat and massive sound behind vacuum tubes (very hard to emulate digitally)
- Saturation drive — harder analog soft clipping / saturation
- Analog hiss — recreates the thin treble noise of analog tape to mask possible distortion
- Bass cut — cut unwanted sub-bass on individual channels to free up loudness headroom
- Output amp — output volume level
- 4x internal oversampling for clean sound without digital artifacts
