Acid sound has been understood by terrestrial audio engineers for approximately forty years. The waveform shape is well documented; the analog circuit topology has been thoroughly reproduced. What recovered specimen ALN-4DX presents is something we did not know was possible.
Where regular acid synthesizers reproduce mono oscillator signals — identical in both channels until external effects are applied — Specimen 4DX produces what laboratory personnel describe as "sound that flies around the listener's head." Initial assumption was reverb or chorus signal treatment. Both have been ruled out.
The instrument's internal circuitry has been re-mapped. We have identified what appears to be a binaural topology — the device's virtual signal paths are physically arranged to emulate inter-aural time delta, inter-aural level delta, and head-shadow frequency response. The device reproduces the physics by which a human ear locates sound in space.

Translation to digital VST instrument format has been completed by G·Sonique DSP Laboratory under directive 17-A. The translated instrument retains all spatial behaviour of the original specimen. Distribution to civilian electronic music production community has been authorized.
